Why Hot Work Card Training?

By law, employers must make sure that employees know how to work safely and that the workplace is safe. This is especially important in high-risk work such as hot work.

Hot work at a temporary work site always requires a written hot work permit. The Hot Work Card is valid for five years.

Who needs a Hot Work Card?

Anyone performing hot work at a temporary work site needs a hot work permit. Many insurance companies require that the permit can only be issued to a person who has completed Hot Work Training and has a valid Hot Work Card.

What is the difference between a permanent and temporary Hot Work Site?

A permanent hot work site is a fixed area designed for hot work and built to meet fire safety requirements. These areas use non-combustible materials and proper fire protection. Hot work permits and Hot Work Cards are usually not required there.

A temporary hot work site is any location not designed specifically for hot work. Common examples include construction sites, maintenance work, machinery repairs, and roofing work. Temporary hot work sites require higher safety precautions. A written hot work permit and a valid Hot Work Card are usually required.

What kind of work requires a Hot Work Card?

Hot work means work that creates sparks, uses a flame, or produces heat that may cause a fire.

Common examples include welding, flame cutting, grinding, and work done with gas burners or hot air tools. Hot work is common in construction, renovation work, industry, maintenance, and repair work.

How long does Hot Work Training take?

Hot Work Card Training lasts 8 hours, including breaks and practical exercises.

How can I replace a Hot Work Card?

If you need a new plastic Hot Work Card, you can order one from the SPEK online store.

You can also download your Hot Work Card to your phone through the Korttitieto.fi service. The mobile card is as valid as the plastic card and is always easy to carry with you. The service can also remind you when your card is about to expire.
